People are always asking me what my top social media management tip is.

The answer to this is very simple: consistency.

Consistency is the key to effective social media engagement. People are always so excited by their shiny new Facebook business pages, but those pages will not do you any good if two months down the line you've stopped updating it, stopped engaging your clients and just abandon your page.

Being consistent in your post frequency is one of the most important things you can do in order to grow your audience. Consistency in the types of content you post gives your audience a reason to come back to your page. Posting a particular type of content (e.g. a tip, a how-to, etc) on a regular schedule gives your audience a reason to come back every week and possibly find some other content that interests them.

A social media schedule helps you determine where you may need to fill in missing content to add variety to your feed and keeps you on track to fill in where something might be missing.

Instead of one or two posts every once in a while, a plan can help you build an audience that routinely reacts to your posts.

Find a schedule that works for you and stick with it! I can be multiple times a day, daily, weekly, monthly or any time frame that works for you.


1. Schedule your posts - scheduling your posts in advance insures you won't miss something on your schedule.


2. Create posts in batches - your more likely to keep up with your plan if you set aside a specific chunk of time to create your posts rather than doing it piecemeal.


3. Continually look for new sources of content, whether it's links you want to share, tweets you want to retweet, blogs you want to quote - all of it can be a source for your content.


Consistency is the key.
